Paint to Pixel is a Virtual Reality Exhibition that charts the history of UK graffiti. It is comprised of original artworks, interviews and archive materials from prominent graffiti artists, past and present.
Paint to Pixel allows often marginalised artists to share their story with new audiences. Graffiti’s story is one that crosses seamlessly between large scale public artworks created through festivals or commissions, alongside the illegal roots of the culture and artists who hone their craft on walls they are not supposed to paint.
Graffiti can be traced back to New York City in the 1970s, and came to prominence in the UK in the 1980s. Graffiti quickly cemented itself as a new creative medium, and simultaneously set up a counter establishment battle between artists and police forces across the country.
Paint to Pixel brings the story up to date as it explores the different strands of graffiti. From large scale legal festivals, to the continuing underground subculture of train art, Graffiti still brings artists together, and divides opinion like no other artform.
Thanks go out to all of the artists who have offered their time and creative talents to be part this exhibition. Because of the nature of their work, many artists have chosen not to be named, but each and every one has made a valuable contribution to this exhibition and the wider street art scene. We thank you.
